Glossary

A table tennis glossary is an essential thing for any book, website or guide to table tennis.

First of all, table tennis is filled with jargon that us experienced players throw out left and right in conversation. What would a new player make of this conversation between table tennis mates?

Yeah, I was playing this junk rubber user with a nasty forehand flick, so I served a dead reverse pendulum serve to his pips, but he twiddled his bat and banana flipped the ball back to my playing elbow. I just managed to pivot and I power looped my third ball attack away from his forehand power zone for a clean winner, bringing the score to deuce!

Besides making things clearer for new players, a glossary also helps to make sure that when I talk about topics like a power loop, that my readers and I are on the same page. You will at least understand what I mean when a call a player a fisher, even though you might call him a topspin defender. You might disagree with my definition of throw angle (I know for a fact that some people do), but when I mention throw angle in an explanation, you will be aware of how I'm using the term.
