Want to See William Henzell in Action?

Photo by: Me, (c) 2007 Greg Letts

The Entire 2004-2007 Australian Open Catalog Now Available for $220 Aus!!

I was recently putting together some highlight videos of the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Australian Open Mens Singles Finals for YouTube, and I thought to myself - Damn, there were some good matches back then - what a pity nobody is ever going to see them!

And let's be honest - my second thought was - What a darn shame I'm not selling any of these great recent match-ups! What can I do to share these with everyone and make some money at the same time?

Are you interested in:

Seeing the best speed gluing two wing loopers go toe-to-toe? Check out William Henzell, Simon Gerada, Kyle Davis, Russell Lavale, Brett Clarke, Trevor Brown and Robert Frank facing off for the titles. Discover how William wins matches by controlling the short game.

Learning how to play lefthanders? See how the best righthanders tackle the task of trying to beat Scott Houston, Kiet Tran and David Zalcberg.

Studying how the best attackers play defenders? Or want to view long pip techniques? Watch Paul Pinkewich, Craig Campbell, Brian Berry (and me!) match up against the top loopers. Learn how and why aging long pip defenders (Pinkewich and myself) or smooth rubber allrounders (Campbell and Berry) can still compete with the young guns.

Copying the premier short pips players? I've got many hours of Sharad Pandit, Kiet Tran, Miao Miao and Trent Carter on tape driving bullets through their opponents.

Enjoying exciting women's matches? I've got finals and semifinals involving Miao Miao, Stephanie Sang, Jian Fang Lay, May Cho, and Bei Bei Sun and Meng Yu Yu of Singapore. Talk about a diversity of styles - you've got a short pip shakehand hitter (Miao), a penhold twiddler (Lay - smooth rubber and long pips), and several loopers and counterhitters all battling it out.

See Simon Celebrate!

The list of head-to-head matches I've got on DVD from 2004-2007 reads like a Who's Who of modern Australian table tennis - William Henzell, Simon Gerada, Russell Lavale, Brett Clarke, David Zalcberg, Kyle Davis, Robert Frank, Kiet Tran, George Tang, Scott Houston, Chamara Fernando, Trevor Brown, Piers Carter, Sharad Pandit, Paul Pinkewich, Alex Swanson, Andy Shih and many more. And that's just the guys - how about women like Miao Miao, Jian Fang Lay, Stephanie Sang, May Cho, Peri & Claire Campbell-Innes, Tammy Gough, Ann-Marie Jolley, Vivian Tan, Kerry Bungey, Si Si Zhang, and Melissa Tapper all squaring off over the table?

But what could I do to get all these great match-ups out to the Australian table tennis fraternity? At around 1hr 15min per DVD, I couldn't honestly see myself converting all my original source files to DVD format - that would take forever.

120 Hours Worth of Footage - Yikes!

Out of curiosity, I did a few quick sums and discovered that I actually had over 120 hours worth of table tennis video footage from the 2004-2007 Australian Open - around 30 hours per year. Phew! No way I'm going to convert that to around 100 DVD's! And at my normal prices of $20 Aus per DVD, who could afford to buy them all?

Inspiration Strikes - Use My Source DVDs!

Then I had a brainwave - I already have all my source files on DVDs - in my original .wmv format! These are the source files I use to create my DVDs, so the quality is DVD standard, and since they are .wmv files, I've got around 4 hours on each of my master DVDs. Excellent! (Note: These are .wmv files on data DVDs, so you'll need to play them on the DVD player in your PC. Although you can use a program like Sonic MyDVD to create your own DVDs from the files, just like I do!)

Want proof of the quality of the .wmv files? Here's a sample video of the 2007 Australian Open Mens Final Highlights (39.6 MB) - this is the quality you will be getting.
